Alireza graduated with Bachelors degree from Isfahan University of Technology in field of Electrical & Computer Engineering. He has a Master of Engineering from Nanyang Technological University working at Singapore Institute of Information and Communication. He is now a PhD student and member of the Centre for Spatial Data Infrastructures and Land Administration (CSDILA) at the Department of Infrastructure Engineering, the University of Melbourne.
In 2006, Alireza received a grant from IDM, Singapore to develop a creative method for measuring psychological and physical distance between people living inside a town. The project was later called Lilihood (Littlie Lively Neighborhood). He later developed interests in working in Geographical Information Systems and led several research and running up projects in the field of GeoData management and online mapping techniques.
Alireza is the founder and co-founder of four different start-ups in Singapore and Iran (Hypersystem, Lilihood, Rojina, PicArtia) from 2001 to 2012. He also has been working the representative of the former Iranian president for managing Internet resources (IPs and Domains). He joined the Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC) within ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) in 2002-2005. Alireza has a special “Internet Governance” degree awarded by Diplomacy.edu in 2005. He’s been an active member of advisory group of Iran for preparing national proposal for WSIS (World Summit of Information Society) held in UN, Geneva in 2003 and 2004.
Tehran Map is one another project which Alireza directed with a team of GIS specialists and software developers. This project is supported by Tehran Municipality and involved different technologies such as Automatic cartography, Online mapping, Traffic sensing, Routing services, Satellite views,, Geographical text recognition for enhanced searches and Mobile maps. Today, Tehran Map project has more than 7 million visitors per year and is counted as one of the key infrastructure projects within IT Organization of Tehran Municipality.
Alireza’s research in the CSDILA mainly focuses on development of a platform for semi-automatic generation, validation, and updating of the voluntarily contributed geoData. This platform would provide a higher level of data reliability for authoritative data providers, by enhancing the quality control mechanisms and algorithms to interpret crowed-sourced data. This creates opportunities for incorporation of such data for development of rich applications based on the power of the crowd.
